Indian batting sensation Jemimah Rodrigues had her teammates and singer Shreya Ghoshal in splits with a witty one-liner during a lighthearted moment in the dressing room ahead of India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 opener against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a heartwarming clip of Ghoshal’s surprise visit, which instantly lit up the Indian camp. The ICC had invited the playback legend to deliver a live rendition of the national anthem before the match. But before taking the field, she took time to meet the players, who eagerly welcomed her presence.

Ghoshal delighted the squad by singing her evergreen track Piyu Bole from Parineeta. The Indian cricketers, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, sat mesmerized, momentarily escaping the pressure of a high-profile World Cup opener. Once she finished, the room erupted in applause, and that’s when Rodrigues stole the show. Standing on a chair, she humorously referenced Indian Idol – where Ghoshal is a judge – and quipped, “Aap Mumbai aa rahe ho (you can come to Mumbai).”

The playful remark had the entire dressing room, including Ghoshal herself, bursting into laughter. The joke carried extra weight, as Ghoshal often uses the line on contestants who impress her on the show. Over the years, it has also become a trending meme on social media.

Smriti Mandhana and Rodrigues then introduced Ghoshal to Radha Yadav, whom they teased as one of the singer’s biggest admirers. They jokingly suggested Yadav would lose her composure if Ghoshal hummed even a single tune. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and camaraderie as captain Harmanpreet Kaur rounded off the moment with a warm hug for the iconic singer.
Before leaving, Ghoshal posed for photographs with the players, creating a memorable prelude to India’s World Cup campaign.
