Jemimah Rodrigues couldn’t help but laugh when a meme comparing her celebration to Virat Kohli went viral after her heroic performance in the Women’s World Cup semi-final. On October 30, at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the young batter produced one of the greatest innings of her career — a masterful century off 115 balls against Australia — guiding India to a historic five-wicket victory in what became the highest successful chase in Women’s ODI cricket.

After bringing up her hundred, Jemimah instinctively sank to her hunches with her head bowed — a gesture that immediately reminded fans of Kohli’s emotional celebration during the Men’s T20 World Cup final against South Africa last year. Social media quickly turned the moment into a meme fest, with comparisons flooding in from every corner.

Reacting to the humour surrounding her celebration, Jemimah Rodrigues admitted she had no idea she’d unintentionally mirrored Kohli’s iconic pose. Speaking on Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel, she said, laughing, “To be honest, I was cooked. I was so tired. I didn’t even realise Virat had done the same thing at No. 3. I was just trying to catch my breath.”

Her century — an unbeaten 127 off 134 deliveries — proved to be the turning point in India’s title-winning campaign. Walking in at 59 for two, Jemimah showcased remarkable composure, stitching a match-defining 167-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Her calmness under pressure and smart shot selection anchored India’s chase beautifully on a high-stakes night.

Jemimah’s influence wasn’t restricted to her batting either. She shone in the field, earning the Best Fielder medal for her sharp catch, a crucial run-out, and brilliant work on the turf. While she didn’t make a big score in the final, her semifinal heroics were instrumental in India lifting their maiden Women’s World Cup trophy.

With a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka up next in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram, Jemimah will aim to extend her purple patch and continue being one of India’s most reliable match-winners.
