The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 did way more than the expectations. During a recent chat with Gaurav Kapur on Breakfast with Champions, Jemimah Rodrigues said, “One more interesting story. I was taking one overseas player; I went in a hoodie and all that and standing in the line. So then one guy was like, “Hey, are you aware that WPL is going to start? I suddenly became curious; he had no clue that I am standing there in the line. He is like right here. So I wanted to hear what does he say. He says, ‘Kya solid khelte hai yaar ye ladki log’ (Man, these girls play so well).”

She further added, “And I was like, what a moment, what a moment. It’s honest; it’s not like you meet people, they will sometimes just say it. I said no ice cream needed now; this is enough.”

Delhi Capitals put in a sensational performance in the inaugural edition of the WPL. The team finished the league stage games of the tournament in first place in the table with 12 points in eight matches. Under the captaincy of Meg Lanning, the side looked to go all the way when they took on Mumbai Indians in the final.
