Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen added a touch of Bollywood to the Women’s Caribbean Premier League 2024 that has left cricket fans and cinema buffs in awe. During the course of a game between Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, Jonassen celebrated a vital wicket taken with elan, emulating none other than Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
The 31-year-old cricketer struck the actor’s iconic pose—arms wide open—following the fall of Aaliyah Alleyne in the 15th over of the Royals’ innings. The Women’s CPL, in its second edition, continues to draw eyeballs across the globe—not just for its high-class cricketing action but even for its entertainment quotient.

The ownership of the Knight Riders franchise by Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Jay Mehta has lent that extra touch of glamour to the tournament. Jonassen’s Bollywood-inspired celebration was a light-hearted tribute to her team’s illustrious co-owner and exhibited the increasing cultural ties within the sport.

The thirty-year-old, representing the Knight Riders, ended with 2/21 in her four-over spell, an otherwise great effort in what was otherwise a really bad display of cricket. Her bowling was one of those shining moments in the game but sadly not enough to turn things around for her side. The Knight Riders were held to a paltry 113/9 in their twenty overs. Deandra Dottin struck 28 off 26 balls, and Shikha Pandey came up with 30 off 34 balls.

The Barbados Royals replied by making a farce of the chase as the target was overshot with seven wickets in hand and 17 balls to spare. Captain Hayley Matthews led from the front, scoring an undefeated 67 off 56 balls, laced with 12 boundaries. With this win, the Royals leapfrogged to the top of the points table, making a statement with back-to-back wins against Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders.
