KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings’ new bowler Jhye Richardson is ready for the challenge of bowling in the death overs of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). While it is his maiden season in IPL 2021, he will be under pressure as he somehow tries to justify his price tag. Notably, PBKS bought him for Rs 14 crore at the mini-auction in February.

However, PBKS already have two talented fast bowlers this season – Richardson and Riley Meredith who will support the key pacer  Mohammed Shami. However, they have some youngsters like Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel and Chris Jordan in their kitty. It is also noteworthy that, they haven’t won the IPL trophy yet. Meanwhile, Jhey Richardson is eagerly waiting to get back in action for Punjab.

“Really, really excited. Obviously have a plenty of time to think about it here in quarantine, here in Mumbai. Had couple of chats with Anil Kumble our coach about what Punjab Kings have needed over the last couple of years and what they have looked for in Riley and myself, sort of a game plan leading into our first game,” he shared.

“He said that we needed someone to assist Mohammed Shami upfront with the new ball and the death overs as well. They mentioned that they have the highest economy rate in the death overs last year. So, Riley and I can bring experience in those particular areas for Punjab but certainly looking forward to the challenge. Have played in India a couple of times now and know what to expect here and ready to accept he challenge,” Jhey Richardson said to India Today.

So far three games have taken place where Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders have registered convincing wins over Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad respectively. Punjab Kings will start their IPL 2021 campaign against Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 12.
