Cricket is named ‘The Gentleman’s Game’, and over the years it has been proved also by the players. Recently Joe Root and his Yorkshire team also showed sportsman spirit of the highest level during a match in the ongoing T20 Blast as well.

They didn’t run out the opposition batsman after he suffered an injury while taking a single. The incident has occurred in the 18th over of the game when Steven Croft collapsed while taking a run due to cramps. However, Luke Wells pushed the ball down the ground for a quick single. On the other hand, Croft, at the non-striker’s end, was not ready at all but still went for the run but couldn’t complete it and fell down as well.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire wicketkeeper, who had received the ball by then, didn’t run the batsman out and he threw the ball away too. The team then rushed to the player and also gave the signal to the umpire to stop the play and waited for the medical team’s arrival and their treatment on the field as well.

However, Joe Root recently shared that he still hopes to break into England’s strong batting line-up for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, claiming that the controversial rest-and-rotation policy was “being put behind us”. However, he last played a Twenty20 international in 2019 and, currently, England are at the top of the T20 world rankings.

“As a batter, all you can do with the quality and strength in depth in that (England) T20 side is try and score as many runs as you can and try and affect as many games in a positive manner as you can,” Joe Root said on Wednesday. When he was asked if he would like to play in the T20 World Cup, he replied: “Of course. Every player wants to be part of that squad.”

However, England will take on India in a five-match Test series next month.
