English batting maestro Joe Root has heaped praise on Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj, calling him a “warrior” and a “great character” on the field. Root, who has had several intense battles with Siraj throughout the series, acknowledged the Indian seamer’s relentless energy, fitness, and determination, especially in a series where Siraj has been the only Indian bowler to feature in every match.

Siraj’s performance, though not always reflected in the wickets column, has had a profound impact. His pressure-filled spells at The Oval on Day 4 were pivotal, even if they didn’t always earn him a wicket directly. Instead, the consistent challenges he posed from one end led to breakthroughs at the other. Root couldn’t help but admire Siraj’s resilience and the spirit he brings to the Indian side.
“Siraj’s a warrior. He gives everything for India. He’s the kind of guy you always want in your team,” said Joe Root at the post-match press conference. “He’s got that fake angriness sometimes, but underneath he’s a really nice guy. His work ethic, his effort, the way he charges in every single delivery—it’s admirable.”

India had a promising start on Day 4, removing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope early. But a dropped chance by Siraj proved costly, as Harry Brook and Joe Root then stitched together a monumental partnership, both scoring centuries to rescue England from a wobble. Despite the setback, Siraj never lost heart, and his effort was instrumental in reducing England from 301/3 to 339/6 by stumps.
In the match, Siraj picked up four wickets in the first innings and added two more in England’s second innings. His series-long consistency and endurance have been standout features of India’s bowling attack.

Joe Root, who scored a brilliant 105 in the second innings, was disappointed not to finish the job himself. “I was frustrated because I missed out. I wanted to be there at the end, but the guys out there are capable of finishing it,” he said, referring to Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton.
Root also emphasised how Siraj serves as an inspiration for young cricketers. “He always plays with a smile, and he gives everything for his team. That’s what makes him a great role model for any young player coming into the game.”

With England needing just 35 more runs on the final day to seal the series 3-1, the Oval Test is poised for a dramatic finish. But no matter the outcome, Mohammed Siraj’s fighting spirit and consistency have already left a lasting impression—even on one of the game’s finest batters.
