Joe Root Becomes The Batsman With Most Test Centuries Against India

The English skipper, Joe Root has smashed his third hundred in the ongoing 5th match series against India in the third match at Headingley on Thursday. Root equaled Kevin Pietersen’s tally on England’s all-time list as the hosts are now having a lead close to 350. Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen are now tied in joint-second place behind Alastair Cook, who had smashed 33 centuries during his playing career for England.

The hundred also saw Root becoming the batsman with most centuries between India-England Tests. Rahul David, Sachin Tendulkar, and Cook were tied on 7 centuries each before Root’s 8th while Mohammad Azharuddin and Kevin Pietersen had hit 6 each.

England skipper Joe Root batted like dream to hit his third successive century of the series which has helped his team to reach a commanding position on Day 2 of the third Test against India at Headingley on Thursday. Having bundled out India for a meager score of 78, England’s top order fired in unison which helped them to reach the score of 423/8 at the end of play on day two of the contest.

Joe Root’s 139-run partnership with Malan came to an end on the stroke of tea when Malan was dismissed caught behind after a fluent 70.  He also became 1st player to score hundreds in 3 consecutive Tests twice in the same year. Root had hit a century in each of the last two Tests in Nottingham and London.

Joe Root also became the player to register the most fifty-plus scores as a captain during England vs India matches in England. Having now smashed six fifties while playing against India in England, he equaled MS Dhoni’s record. Indian bowlers have not been able to trouble Root so far in the series as he has already reached the tally of 507 runs in 5 innings at an average of 126.75.
