Veteran England batter Joe Root has returned to the England ODI team for the first time post the 2023 World Cup as he was added to the 15-man squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The same 15-member squad will play the ODI series in India before the mega event. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes, the Test captain, might have also been in the race for a recall to the 50-over squad but the ECB confirmed that he wasn’t picked because of his hamstring injury which he sustained recently during the final Test against New Zealand.
However, Joe Root wasn’t considered for the ODI cricket after England’s poor World Cup show in India last year where he made only 276 runs at an average of 30.66 as well. Meanwhile, the white-ball series in India will be Brendon McCullum’s first as the all-format head coach that has seen his return to the set-up.

Meanwhile, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer will pose a strong pace attack that also has Saqib Mahmood, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton as well. Notably, the same squad has been picked for the five-match T20I series as well with the only exception being Rehan Ahmed coming in place of Joe Root as well. The tour will begin with the T20Is, beginning on January 22 whereas the ODI series will take place between February 6-12.
