The English skipper, Joe Root said his team is privileged to witness the greatness of the all-rounder Ben Stokes’ as the later gave another testimony of being the most versatile cricketer of modern-day cricket. Stokes laid the foundation for England’s 113-run win that helped the hosts to level the three-match series.

In the first innings, Ben Stokes was required to bat carefully in difficult conditions, he took 255 balls to score his century and scored his slowest ton. He demonstrated his ability to adapt during England’s second innings when opened for the first time in his Test career and he played a fiery knock of 78 not out off just 57 balls as West Indies had to chase down 312 runs.

Stokes’ batting alone was good enough for him to become the man-of-the-match, but he contributed with the ball as well. The West Indies, having slumped to 37/4 and the partnership of the fifth-wicket started nourishing but then the English all-rounder broke the partnership between Shamarh Brooks and Jermaine Blackwood.

Talking to reporters about the same, Root said, “He’s Mr. Incredible. I suppose,. I certainly think he can keep performing at this level. I think the sky’s the limit for him really. To have such a complete game, and so many different gears at your disposal allow you the ability to keep getting better.”

In Root’s absence in the first Test of the series, Stokes led the team, but unfortunately, hosts lost the game. 

Commenting on Stokes’ captaincy, Root said, “If he continues to read situations the way he is, and keeps the confidence that he’s playing with at the moment, there’s no reason why we can’t continue to see such brilliant performances as we have done this week, and over the last 12 months really. I think everyone understands that we are watching a player at the peak of his powers, at the peak of world cricket, delivering time and time again.”
