Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag continued his impressive run at the toss in IPL 2026, once again opting to bowl first against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. On a surface expected to favour batters, the decision paid immediate dividends as Jofra Archer struck in the very first over, removing Abhishek Sharma and giving RR yet another dream start with the new ball.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, playing at home, have struggled to make their conditions count this season. Surprisingly, their only win so far has come away from home, at Eden Gardens, raising concerns about their consistency in familiar conditions. In contrast, Rajasthan Royals have looked like the most complete side in the tournament, remaining unbeaten with four wins in four matches and sitting comfortably at the top of the points table.

Abhishek Sharma, one half of SRH’s explosive opening pair alongside Travis Head, came into the game with renewed confidence after a stunning outing in the previous match. Known for his aggressive approach in the Powerplay, Abhishek has the ability to dismantle bowling attacks, especially through the offside. However, Archer had other plans.

Bowling with pace and precision, the England quick delivered a sharp ball that hurried Abhishek, forcing a mistimed shot that was safely caught at deep backward point. It was a well-executed plan by RR, as the left-hander fell for a duck despite looking dangerous in recent outings.

Just a game ago, Abhishek had lit up the tournament with a breathtaking 18-ball half-century against Punjab Kings, smashing five fours and four sixes. That knock powered SRH to a record-breaking 105 in the Powerplay, showcasing his destructive potential.

But Archer has quickly become a specialist in breaking such momentum early. The pacer, who had dismissed Phil Salt with a bouncer in the previous game, once again delivered with the new ball. His ability to strike in the opening overs has made him one of Rajasthan Royals’ most valuable assets this season, setting the tone for their bowling dominance.
