Jofra Archer played a key role in the Rajasthan Royals’ narrow six-run win over the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, but the final-over plan was not what many expected. Archer later revealed that skipper Riyan Parag changed the bowling order at the death and handed the last over to Tushar Deshpande, a decision that proved decisive in Rajasthan’s second straight victory.

Speaking to the host broadcasters, Jofra Archer explained how the late tactical switch helped RR close out the contest under pressure. “Riyan changed his mind. He (Deshpande) was going to bowl the 19th and I was going to bowl the last,” Archer said. “Everything that could have gone right in the field went right and I am proud of the boys.”

Deshpande responded superbly when the pressure was at its peak, landing six consecutive deliveries in the blockhole or wide-yorker zone to prevent the Gujarat Titans from getting over the line. His precision at the death ensured Rajasthan stayed ahead despite a late charge from the opposition.

Rajasthan had earlier posted a strong 210/6, built around important half-centuries from Dhruv Jurel, who scored 75 off 42 balls, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made 55 off 36. That total gave the Royals enough runs to defend, even on a ground where high scores have often been chased down.

Jofra Archer, who is himself known for his pace and death-over control, praised Deshpande’s composure. “Practice and a game can be two different things. It is just about adapting,” he said.

For Gujarat Titans, the chase was built around a classy 73 from Sai Sudharsan, but the innings drifted into trouble at 161/7 before Kagiso Rabada and stand-in captain Rashid Khan briefly revived hopes with a late stand.

Rabada and Rashid took GT close, but the momentum shifted again when Rashid fell in the deep, with Archer completing the catch. “I initially thought it was going to six,” Jofra Archer said. “I just ran and hoped for the best, and thankfully it went in.” Rajasthan next face Mumbai Indians in Guwahati on Tuesday.
