Former Australian all-rounder John Hastings had a forgettable outing during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) fixture between Australia Champions and Pakistan Champions on Tuesday, delivering one of the most wayward overs in recent memory. The medium-pacer bowled an astonishing 18-ball over, which included a staggering 12 wides and a no-ball.

Hastings’ over began with five consecutive wides before Shoaib Maqsood managed to get bat on ball and steal a single. Sharjeel Khan, now on strike, punished the second legal delivery of the over with a thumping boundary straight down the ground. However, the chaos resumed quickly as Hastings delivered another wide, a no-ball, and then gave away a leg bye.
A rare dot ball was met with a sarcastic cheer from the crowd, but the relief was short-lived as five more wides followed, capping off a disastrous spell that ultimately helped Pakistan Champions seal a 10-wicket win in just 7.5 overs.

The Australians, who batted first, were skittled for a meagre 74 in just 11.5 overs. Pakistan’s bowling was led by the wily Saeed Ajmal, who bagged a remarkable 6-wicket haul. Ben Dunk top-scored for Australia with 26 runs, while Callum Ferguson was the only other batter to reach double figures.

In response, Pakistan’s openers Shoaib Maqsood (28*) and Sharjeel Khan (32*) made light work of the chase, staying unbeaten and wrapping up the match in emphatic fashion.

While the contest highlighted Pakistan’s clinical performance, it also drew attention to Hastings’ struggles with rhythm and control, raising concerns over his bowling form in the veteran circuit. It was, without a doubt, a night to forget for the Aussie quick, whose 18-ball over might just become one of the WCL’s most infamous moments.
