Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes was famously known as best fielder in the international cricket. While a fan asked Rhodes about the best fielders, he revealed two names who would beat him in the fielding.

Jonty Rhodes

The former Protease right-handed batsman had made his international cricket debut in 1992 and played till 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. He had played 52 Tests and 245 ODIs where he had scored 2,532 runs and 5,935 runs respectively along with just above 35 averages in both formats.

But, Rhodes was highly famous for his fielding. In his very early international career, Rhodes had become famous for his fielding specially after his famous run-out dismissal to Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq in 1992 ICC Cricket World Cup. After gathering the ball, Rhodes ran from the backward point to striker end wicket and then dived to break the stumps which effected Inzamam’s dismissal. That fielding has still remained on the top of the best fielding in international cricket. He retained his superb fielding performances till the end of his international career.

Recently in a Q&A session on Twitter, Rhodes was asked by a fan that who he thinks a better fielder between him and former Indian cricketer Robin Singh.

The fan wrote, “Sir who do u think is better btw u & robinsingh as fielders in current domain ? Do u guys put urself to any such challenge at the ground ? Just asking !”

In reply, Jonty named former South African all-rounder and captain Shaun Pollock and former Indian cricketer Robin Singh.

The 48-year-old wrote, “Hi Ashwin; I must confess that when Shaun Pollock was head coach of @mipaltan we would have accuracy throwing contests – Robin & Shaun would beat me – probably why I threw myself at the stumps instead of the ball in 1992”

Jonty Rhodes was the fielding coach of IPL team Mumbai Indians from 2008 to 2016. During his stint, Shaun Pollock and Robin Singh were also in the coaching staff along with Anil Kumble, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene etc.
