Jos Buttler has etched his name into T20 cricket history by becoming the first batter to reach 15,000 runs in the format. The England wicketkeeper-batter achieved the landmark during England’s six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20I at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on September 17. After winning the toss, England restricted Sri Lanka to 145/9 in 20 overs.
The hosts then produced another dominant display with the bat, chasing down the 146-run target in only 12.1 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Jos Buttler played his part with a brisk 30 off 16 deliveries, smashing four boundaries and a six. Although he did not stay until the end, his aggressive start helped England establish control early in the chase.
The milestone came in Buttler’s 528th T20 appearance. He overtook former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who finished his T20 career with 14,999 runs. Buttler has now accumulated 15,000 T20 runs at an average of 35.46 and a strike rate of 147.46. His tally includes nine centuries and 107 half-centuries, highlighting his consistency across domestic and international T20 cricket.

The England star has also enjoyed success in several major franchise leagues, representing teams such as Lancashire, Manchester Originals, Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, Paarl Royals, Sydney Thunder, Comilla Victorians, Durban’s Super Giants and Melbourne Renegades.

Buttler’s achievement comes after a difficult beginning to his 2026 T20I campaign. He went through 14 consecutive innings without registering a half-century for England before rediscovering his form in recent games. His response has been emphatic. Across his last three T20I appearances, Buttler has scored 241 runs at an average above 80 and a strike rate of 194.30, providing England with another major boost at the top of the order.
His latest contribution came against Sri Lanka, where he helped England race to 50 inside the first five overs before departing with the chase firmly under control. The middle order then completed the job comfortably.

The victory extended England’s winning streak to six consecutive T20Is. It also followed their impressive 4-0 series victory over India in July. With the series already secured, England will now look to complete a clean sweep when they face Sri Lanka in the third T20I at Old Trafford, Manchester, on September 19.
