Jos Buttler produced another decisive moment behind the stumps in the second T20I between India and England in Manchester, this time helping remove Axar Patel with a sharp run-out during the death overs. The England wicketkeeper had already played a key role earlier in the innings by stumping Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and he once again proved why he remains one of the best glovemen in world cricket.

India lost Axar on the third ball of the 19th over, with the left-hander departing for just 2 off 3 deliveries at a crucial stage of the innings. Buttler showed excellent awareness and presence of mind while collecting and throwing the ball, initially aiming at the striker’s end before the throw, instead found the stumps at the bowler’s end to complete the dismissal.

The match also marked a historic moment for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made his India debut after much anticipation. The 15-year-old left-hander arrived with huge expectations, and although his first innings for the senior side ended in a short stay, he still managed to announce himself in style.

Sooryavanshi struck a huge six off Jofra Archer and finished with 14 runs off 10 balls, including two maximums, before being stumped by Buttler after charging down the track to Will Jacks. India chose to bat first after captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss, and the team eventually posted 190 for 7 in 20 overs.

Interestingly, none of the Indian batters reached a half-century, yet the total still stood out as one of the strongest team efforts by India in T20Is without an individual 50-plus score. Ishan Kishan came closest with 49 off 40 balls, while Abhishek Sharma made 43 off 24. Iyer also played an important hand with 37 off 22 deliveries, giving the innings stability after an early loss of wickets.

Tilak Varma added valuable late runs as well, striking at a brisk pace in the death overs and finishing unbeaten on 24 off 11 balls. His cameo, combined with the contributions from the top and middle order, helped India reach a competitive score despite missing a big individual innings.

For England, Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings, taking 3 for 33 in his four overs. He dismissed Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube, keeping India from fully accelerating through the middle overs. But even with the ball, Buttler’s sharp glovework remained one of the defining features of England’s response in the field.
