Jos Buttler Reveals AB De Villiers Didn’t Know His Nationality

With no cricket going on, all the cricketers have a lot of free time on their hands right now. They are making the most of it by spending time with family. Many cricketers have also been proactive on their social media in the past few weeks due to the lockdown. In a podcast organized by IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler revealed the player he considers his idol. The World Cup winner also shared an interesting story about his interactions with former South African cricketer AB De Villiers. the Englishman reveals how AB De Villiers misunderstood the wicketkeeper to be a New Zealand international.

During the podcast named The Royals Podcast Episode 3, Buttler revealed,  “De Villiers has been my idol growing up. The guy I love watching, he is just awesome.”

Buttler recalled an incident when he was a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer AB De Villiers invited him over for a beer. While speaking to AB De Villiers for more than 20 minutes, Jos Buttler realized that De Villiers did not know his nationality.

“Got to know him a little bit during the IPL actually when I was at Mumbai (Indians). Just at the start of the game, he said I will catch up with you for a beer at the hotel after the game,” said Buttler.

“We probably chatted for 20 minutes, having a great time I am loving it and he has got pretty strong Afrikaans accent. About 20 minutes into the conversation, he asks ‘which part of New Zealand are you from?’ and that just absolutely killed me,” the English keeper said.

Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with many international and domestic matches being canceled. The future of IPL is also in doubt due to the pandemic outbreak of the CoronaVirus.
