England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has once again highlighted the mutual respect he shares with former India captain Rohit Sharma, revealing a heartfelt gift he received after the recently concluded ODI series between India and England. The two modern-day greats first became teammates at the Mumbai Indians, where they played together for two IPL seasons and lifted the 2017 Indian Premier League title. Although Buttler has since represented two other IPL franchises, his friendship with Rohit has only grown stronger over the years.
The duo faced each other in the recently concluded three-match ODI series in England, which the hosts won 2-1. Despite the fierce on-field competition, Rohit presented Buttler with one of the most cherished souvenirs a cricketer can receive—his signed India jersey.
On Friday, July 24, Buttler shared a picture of the jersey on his Instagram story. Rohit Sharma had penned a heartfelt message that read: “Dear Jos, Loved my time playing with & against you.” The England star responded with equal admiration, writing: “The one opposition player’s shirt I’ve always wanted. One of my all-time favourite players! Will treasure this. Thank you @rohitsharma45.”

The exchange quickly caught the attention of cricket fans, reflecting the respect the two veterans have built through years of competing at the highest level in both international cricket and the IPL.

Rohit had endured a difficult start to the ODI series, scoring just 11 and 26 in the opening two matches. Speculation surrounding his international future intensified, with reports suggesting the Lord’s ODI could be his final appearance in India’s colours. However, the veteran opener responded emphatically, smashing a breathtaking 138 off 110 deliveries, including 17 fours and five sixes. Although India fell short while chasing 388, Rohit’s innings served as a timely reminder of his class and silenced many of his critics.
Buttler also finished the series on a high. After registering scores of five and 17 in the first two ODIs, the explosive right-hander played a blistering unbeaten knock of 41 from just 13 balls in the series decider, helping England post a formidable total.
