At the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans (GT) are off to a flying start in their clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025. The hosts have built momentum early on, with contributions from the top order, as Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan all chipped in to pile on the runs. Shubman Gill may have missed out on reaching a fifty, but both Buttler and Sai Sudharsan came out firing.

Their aggressive stroke play has set the tone, sending the opposition’s bowlers scrambling to adjust. Meanwhile, a tactical misstep by MI has added an extra twist to the contest. In a surprising move, the Mumbai side opted to drop their star, Vignesh Pathur, instead banking on Satyanarayan Raju. Unfortunately for MI, the decision backfired.

In his very first over, Raju attempted to surprise Buttler with a slower, back-of-the-hand delivery. However, the ball was short and sluggish, taking its time to reach Buttler, who waited patiently for it to dip before whacking it for a boundary. The delivery was met with laughter from the crowd, and even Buttler couldn’t help but chuckle at the unexpected blunder. The moment quickly became a talking point among fans and pundits alike.
Waited, waited… & muscled! 💪#JosButtler had enough time to put that one away to the boundary! 😁

Despite the early excitement, Buttler was unable to convert his brisk start into a substantial score, falling to Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the following over. He departed with a score of 39 off 24 balls, leaving the Titans at 196/8 in 20 overs at the time of writing.

On the other side, MI’s captain Hardik Pandya defended his team’s decision to bowl first. “I’m unsure about the pitch conditions, and with dew likely to play a factor, we chose to bowl first. Different surfaces require different approaches, and batting second on a black soil pitch is always preferable. Our goal is to perform collectively and back each other up,” he explained.
Adding to the discussion, Shubman Gill noted that the conditions at the stadium have remained consistent over time, implying that the toss result may not drastically alter the outcome. As MI looks to regroup, all eyes remain on this thrilling contest in IPL 2025.
