Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh are Australia’s new Test vice-captain

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood and the all-rounder Mitchell Marsh have been appointed as the joint vice-captain of the Australian Test cricket team who will work under the Test captain Tim Paine.

Cricket Australia (CA) has finally built up the new leadership team in Test cricket since the ball-tampering incident happened during the Cape Town Test in this March. Hazlewood and Marsh both have been appointed as the vice-captains in the Test cricket. While Hazlewood will not be available in their upcoming tour in UAE to play two-match Test series against Pakistan, Marsh will be in-charge as the deputy of the Australian skipper Tim Paine.

In the press release, chief selector Trevor Hohns said about both the new deputy-leaders, “Josh and Mitch display great leadership qualities, and we were extremely impressed by their passion and energy to help guide Australian cricket into this exciting new era.

“Our vision is to create great cricketers and great people, and we are extremely fortunate to have such terrific young men charged with responsibility of upholding the high standards and values we and Australian cricket fans expect of their Test team.

“Josh has shown he is a leader among the playing group, and we felt it was important to have a representative from the bowling group. He’s calm under pressure, communicates well and leads by example on and off the field.

“Mitch has successfully captained Australia A, Australia U19 and WA. He is an extremely popular member of the team, he has great humility, and given his lineage. he understands and respects the responsibility which comes with representing Australia and Australians.”

The 27-year-old Josh Hazlewood has played 40 Tests since his Test debut in December 2014 against India at Brisbane. The right-arm pacer has picked up 151 Test wickets with the average of 26.84.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has played 28 Tests till the date, who made his Test debut against Pakistan at Dubai (DSC) in October 2014. The right-handed batsman has scored 1,170 runs (average 27.85) and the right-arm medium pacer also has taken 33 wickets (average 42.06) in his Test career.
