West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves etched his name into the record books with a sensational bowling performance against Pakistan in the opening Test of the series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. The right-arm seamer became the first bowler in available Test cricket records to deliver five consecutive wicket-maiden overs, producing one of the most remarkable spells ever witnessed in the longest format of the game.
Greaves’ historic effort came on Day 3 of the first Test, when Pakistan looked firmly in control of their first innings. The visitors had cruised to 244/3, with captain Shan Masood bringing up a well-compiled century and appearing set to guide his side to a sizeable lead over West Indies’ first-innings total of 311.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically once Greaves was introduced into the attack. Maintaining exceptional discipline with both line and length, he dismissed Masood before ripping through Pakistan’s middle and lower order. Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, Mohammad Rizwan, and Mohammad Abbas all fell in successive wicket-maiden overs as Greaves produced a spell that completely transformed the contest.

In doing so, Greaves surpassed the previous benchmark of four consecutive wicket-maidens, set by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2016. “When I came on, Roston Chase just told me to stay disciplined and continue doing what I was doing while looking for wickets. The ball moved around nicely, and fortunately, I got the rewards. Despite Greaves’ record-breaking heroics, Pakistan fought back strongly in West Indies’ second innings to keep the Test finely balanced. By the close of play on Day 3, the hosts had slumped to 126/7, extending their overall lead to 155 runs. Shamar Joseph remained unbeaten on 22, while Kemar Roach was not out on five, leaving West Indies with just three wickets in hand.
