It has been in talks for quite a long time that Australia has not been able to match the teams like India and England in terms of depth. However, Australia coach Justin Langer has a different perspective on the matter as he stated it is certainly not the case but they have learned a lesson after losing the recent T20I series to West Indies 1-4. Langer added that his men hadn’t played cricket for a long time and that is why they struggled in the Caribbean.
If talking of depth, England recently outclassed Pakistan with their B side in the ODI and T20I series. India, on the other hand, is playing without the services of their Test players and won the ODI series against Sri Lanka and the T20I series is leveled at 1-1 with the decider to be played on Thursday.

In the same light, Justin Langer added that their men lacked some match practice off late whereas West Indies were up after playing against South Africa. However, he completely brushed off the fact that Australians have any issues with the depth in the squad. Langer also added that when it comes to selection in the Australia team, selectors do have a pool of players to pick from, which is really a positive sign for them.
As per the quotes in crciket.com.au, Justin Langer said, “I came out of the T20 series with some real perspective. Our guys hadn’t played any cricket for three months and it’s so hard to come off no cricket – you can have as many nets as you like, you can have practice games, but you can’t (simulate match practice). The West Indies had come off a series against South Africa, they were a bit more battle-hardened.”

Langer concluded, “I thought there were some really good signs, we were close in that series, we were close in that first (T20I). There were some really good signs coming out of that I thought. There’s no way I’d say we’re behind India and England in terms of talent. We’ve just got to get them some experience.”
