Justin Langer wants Aussies to play IPL before World T20

Former Australia player and current team head coach Justin Langer commented shared his thoughts on the star-studded Indian Premier League. The Aussie international views IPL as a great platform to prepare all the players for the ICC Men’s T 20 World Cup that is scheduled to begin in October hosted by his nation, Australia.

On Monday, Justin Langar said he finds India’s premier cricketing event as a very good launch base that could help his player prepare for the ICC tournament. The former Australia opener expressed his eagerness to see his fellow players and countrymen play in the IPL. However with India completely locked down due to the pandemic spread of the virus, the future of IPL lies under the clouds of uncertainty.

Langer had a chat with Fox Sports where he quoted, “Before this crisis started to unravel, we were absolutely determined for our guys to play the IPL. Because with the T20 World Cup coming up, there’s no better grounding, no better practice, no better tournament for them to get ready for that.”

Langer expressed concern over not just the cricketers but also for both the countries as the number of positive cases has been increasing daily.

“But obviously things have changed a lot. The health of not only our individual players but also our country and India as a whole is paramount here,” Langer said.

The Australian Cricket played last played the shortest format of the game when the took on South Africa in a T-20 series back in February. Led by limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch, the Aussies defeated the Proteas 2-1to win the 3 match series.

Head Coach and national team selection member Justin Langer insisted that he is not worried about the selection and believes his team has a very well settled side with good players at their disposal.

“In terms of selection, I’m not too stressed about it … one or two positions in our World Cup side are up for grabs. It’s a very, very settled team. We played great cricket against South Africa,” he added.
