World Cup-winning player K Srikkanth has said that he would like KL Rahul to take a break from the game for a while as he is going through a rough patch in his career. Rahul’s start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy hasn’t been great as he has failed to make an impact in the three innings he has played. Many fans and critics have asked him to be dropped for the next Test in Indore as well.

Speaking to The Times Of India, Srikkanth said that he has tremendous admiration for the veteran but things aren’t going well for him right now. The former cricketer has also said that if he was the chairman of selectors, he would have gone up to KL Rahul and asked him to take a break from action for some time.

“I have tremendous admiration for the class of Rahul, in fact, I call him Rolls Royce Rahul… but it is just not happening for him at the moment. If I was the chairman of selectors, I would have gone up to him and told him to take a break for a while,” said K Srikkanth.

K Srikkanth has also said that he feels the issue with Rahul is more mental and he needs a break to work on his loopholes. The World Cup winner also said that it was time to let the young and talented India opener Shubman Gill get a chance as it is not right to keep someone who is in a good form waiting.

“I cannot pinpoint a technical deficiency in his game at the moment. I think this is more mental and all Rahul needs to do is take a break and sort his mind out. There’s no reason why he can’t come back all guns blazing,” said K Srikkanth. “But with all due respect to Rahul, it is time to play Shubman. You can’t keep a player waiting when he is in the form of his life.”
