Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal is once again under the spotlight for controversial remarks. Just days after former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh criticized him for making racist comments about Arshdeep Singh during the India-Pakistan match, Kamran stirred the pot with another statement. This time, he made a significant claim about his younger brother, Umar Akmal.
Kamran disclosed that he had recently reviewed statistics concerning Umar and found some surprising insights. While he conceded that Umar is not on par with the legendary Virat Kohli in terms of overall career achievements and charisma, he pointed out that Umar boasts a better strike rate and highest score than Kohli in T20 World Cups.

“I reviewed some stats yesterday and saw that in World T20 matches, Umar has better numbers than Virat Kohli. Umar isn’t comparable to Virat in terms of overall performances and aura, but his T20 World Cup stats are better,” Kamran stated during an appearance on ARY News.

Kamran Akmal noted that Umar has a superior strike rate (132.42 vs. 130.52) and a higher individual score in T20 World Cups (94 in 2014 compared to Kohli’s highest of 89* in 2016).
Despite the controversy and perceived inaccuracy of Kamran’s context, his statistical comparison holds some truth, highlighting Umar’s specific achievements in the T20 World Cup format.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s campaign in the current T20 World Cup has been disappointing. They are already eliminated from the tournament despite having one more match to play against Ireland. Their seven-wicket victory over Canada was overshadowed by consecutive losses to co-hosts USA and arch-rivals India. These defeats have made it impossible for the Babar Azam-led team to progress further, marking an early exit from the competition.
