Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson has officially announced his retirement from professional cricket, bringing the curtains down on a long and rewarding career that spanned nearly two decades. At 34, Richardson steps away from the game having left a strong imprint across international cricket, Australia’s domestic circuit, and franchise leagues around the world.

Richardson will always be remembered as part of Australia’s triumphant 2021 T20 World Cup squad, a milestone that highlighted his value in white-ball cricket. However, it was the Big Bash League (BBL) where he truly carved out his legacy. Across 15 BBL seasons, the right-arm quick picked up 142 wickets, placing him fifth on the competition’s all-time men’s wicket-takers list—an outstanding achievement in a league filled with elite fast bowlers.
His BBL journey saw him represent Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades, and Sydney Sixers, making meaningful contributions at every stop. Richardson enjoyed his most productive spell with the Renegades, where he played a pivotal role in their BBL|08 title win. With 104 wickets in 80 matches, he finished as the Renegades’ leading men’s wicket-taker in BBL history, underlining his consistency and reliability.

On the international stage, Kane Richardson earned 25 ODI caps and 36 T20I appearances for Australia, often trusted in high-pressure situations with the new ball and at the death. His T20 career began back in 2009 with South Australia in the original state-based Big Bash, and he featured in the Strikers’ very first BBL match in season one.

In recent years, injuries limited his on-field opportunities. Kane Richardson played his final professional matches for the Sydney Sixers in BBL 15, appearing twice before deciding to call time on his career.
Beyond T20s, Kane Richardson also enjoyed a solid red-ball and List A run, taking 102 wickets in 34 first-class matches and 153 wickets in 98 List A games. Internationally, he featured in leagues such as the IPL, representing Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Pune Warriors, while also playing in England and the UAE.
