New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has given a big update prior to the much-awaited ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Team India on Friday. He said that he is recovering well from his elbow injury and he will be fit to take the field in the summit clash as well.

New Zealand recently won the two-match Test series against England by 1-0 at Edgbaston following a draw in the Lord’s. While Williamson had played in the first Test, he had sustained an injury scare in his elbow and missed the second game as well. Tom Latham led New Zealand to a historic 1-0 series win as they beat England by 8 wickets that too within 4 days in Birmingham as well.

“Everybody is fit in the squad. My elbow has improved thanks to the injection a few days back. We haven’t finalised the squad yet, we will do that a little later,” Kane Williamson told reporters on the eve of the summit clash in Southampton.

“The rankings keep changing but we know the challenge is very, very strong against this Indian team. There are a number of areas of competition — we know how strong the seam bowling attack is, the spinners and the batting is world class. Similar for us too, it is exciting to be involved in this WTC final,” he further added.

While mostly everyone believes New Zealand will have the advantage after winning the Test series recently, India are no less prepared too. Meanwhile, many believe the WTC final should be of best-of-three clashes, Kane Williamson is fine with the format.

“Most Test series are more than one (match). Both teams at a neutral venue. It is exciting. It is a one-off,” Kane Williamson concluded.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has recently said that batting could be a concern for India in red-ball cricket in England. However, the former captain also stated that they will have to work hard when they play in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final and the five-match Test series against England in August as well. Sourav Ganguly further added that Virat Kohli’s team will have to put up 300-350 runs in England to put pressure on the Kiwis as well.

“Batting has been a concern for Team India in England. We made over 450 runs at Trent Bridge, so when you make big runs the opposition comes under pressure. Even the bowlers get a total that they can defend when the team scores big. India should forget the past, the lack of big totals on their previous tours,” Ganguly again shared on e-Salaam Cricket 2021.
