Former Royal Challengers Bangalore batter AB de Villiers has applauded former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, saying that he can be the glue for any batting line-up in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League as well. Meanwhile, Williamson is all set to feature in the first match for Gujarat Titans as they are all set to take on Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the 2023 IPL at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

While speaking before the first match, AB de Villiers called Williamson an absolute rockstar, adding that he can be a glue for any batting line-up in the league as well. Meanwhile, he urged Williamson to play his natural game, saying that he can play the role of an anchor and drag the innings over the 20 overs if wickets fall quickly.

“Kane Williamson is an absolute rockstar player. Very underrated when it comes to T20 cricket. Everyone thinks that he plays slow, run-a-ball and then he ups it. I feel he can be a glue of any batting line-up and still go on and score at 170-180 batting strike rate. I think Kane can just play his natural game, get himself in and then ultimately take them down. If the rest of the line-up falls around him, he is the perfect guy to take those guys to the 20th over. And that’s going to be his role,” de Villiers added.

However, AB de Villiers also praised Shubman Gill, claiming that he is an experienced campaigner now and the 2023 edition of the tournament will be good for him. Gill will be looking to carry his international form in the IPL too, after winning ICC’s Player of the Month award for January and smashing his maiden T20I century as well.

“Shubman Gill is one of those very talented players up the order that can complement someone like Kane Williamson. Shubman has come a very long way with his cricket and almost like an experience campaigner now even though he is still young. The IPL 2023 is going to be a good one for him,” concluded AB de Villiers.
