Kane Williamson again proved himself to be one of the world’s best fielders, pulling off a remarkable catch to get rid of Bangladesh’s young star, Towhid Hridoy, for a low score. Though the catch was difficult, the former New Zealand skipper made it seem easy, reflecting his characteristic calmness and agility.

The action took place in the 21st over when off-spinner Michael Bracewell delivered a flighted ball outside the off-stump. Hridoy, sensing a chance, tried a forceful shot over the covers to the boundary. He misjudged the stroke, losing control over the height, and the ball sailed into the air.

Covering at the position of cover, Williamson made a quick estimation of the path, turned, ran back fast, and took an incredible over-the-shoulder catch, gaining a key breakthrough for New Zealand. Bracewell’s clever bowling was central to the wicket. The nicely flung delivery tricked Hridoy, compelling him into a mistake.
The Bangladeshi young gun, who had delivered impressive performances earlier in the tournament, could not repeat his past heroics at Dubai, getting undone by Williamson’s fielding brilliance.

Earlier during the game, New Zealand had won the toss and decided to bowl, and stand-in captain Mitchell Santner declared two significant changes—Kyle Jamieson in place of Nathan Smith and Rachin Ravindra for a sick Daryl Mitchell. Santner thought the pitch would get better for batting as the match went on.

Bangladesh, however, were assured even after being asked to bat first. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was not fazed by the toss outcome, pointing to the presence of veteran Mahmudullah and pace sensation Rana in the batting order. Looking back at their comeback against India in the last match, Shanto was confident that his team could play in the middle overs against quality opposition.
