New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, has announced his name in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League today. Having warmed the bench for the initial matches, Williamson was included into the playing eleven in place of Mohammad Nabi for today’s match against Delhi Daredevils.
Williamson came into bat at No. 3 after the fall of his captain, David Warner. He along with Shikhar Dhawan got their eyes in a decent powerplay which saw the Hyderabad batsman scoring 39 runs. The Kiwi batsman up the ante eventually. At the halfway mark, Sun Risers were 80-1.
Williamson scored his third six in the following over and completed his second IPL half-century in the 12th over. The gears were changing and the accelerator was being pressed. In the 14th over, he hit two sixes off the bowling of Daredevils’ top bowler, Amit Mishra. At this stage, the boundaries were coming at will and the run rate was at a soaring high.
Notwithstanding his closing in on his maiden IPL century, Williamson went for his shots and had to pay the price in the form of his wicket in the 17th over. Chris Morris dismissed him on 89 (54). The ever-so-elegant consisted of six fours and five sixes. Seldom was a rash shot played. The knock dwelled on proper cricketing shots and calculated risks. A typical Kane Williamson type of knock!
