After the release of the first look of Ranveer Singh playing India’s first World Cup-winning skipper, Kapil Dev, the legendary cricketer showered praise for the actor for his efforts. Kapil who led an underdog Team India to a World Cup win in 1983 is regarded as one of the best all-rounders world cricket has ever seen. The legendary Indian all-rounder on the 6th of January celebrated his 61st birthday.
The movie titled ’83 will be releasing later this year has its story based around India’s World Cup win in 1983. The film will be celebrating the struggles and achievements of the team in 1983 had to go through. Everything from the label of underdogs being given to the side to the semi-finals being regarded as a walk-over for England will be portrayed in the film.
As reported by Filmfare, Kapil Dev after the release of the first look of Ranveer playing the legendary all-rounder was released on his birthday and he had a lot of praises for the actor. Kapil said that Ranveer, in the pursuit to perfect his style of play and bring it as close to Kapil’s, would practice 8 hours a day, even in intense heat.

Describing the same, the former Indian skipper said, “I’d see him (Ranveer Singh) work so hard on bowling, he’d bowl and play for eight hours constantly to understand the rhythm, and would do so in the peak of summer.” He even went on to add that Ranveer’s training schedule was harder than those who play the sport professionally. He also had concerns regarding the actor’s fitness because straining the body so hard can be taxing for even the professional cricketers and he had feared for his fitness.
The legendary cricketer also brought to light the fact that in an attempt to study his daily routine, lifestyle, pronunciation, and actions, Ranveer stayed with him for 10 full days. All this while, Ranveer was closely monitoring the cricketer was doing and more importantly how was he doing it.
Kapil Dev’s journey from rags to riches, which many dream of seeing on the big screen along with the struggle of Team India that was in England in 83 will all be a part of the film. One of the main talking points that will be in focus will be the pleasure of one of the greatest innings of Kapil.
