One of the big names missing from the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is Rishabh Pant as he met with a car accident on New Year’s Eve in 2022 where he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. It has been more than a month since the incident and he has been recovering well, however, legendary Indian skipper, Kapil Dev is quite angry with the young glovesman and wants to ‘slap’ him once he recovers.

On ABP Uncut, Kapil Dev said that while he loves Pant, he would want to slap him once he recovers so that he takes care of himself. He said, “I have a lot of love for him. I want him to recover so that I can go and slap him and tell him to look after himself. Because of your accident, the entire team is in tatters. I love him but I am also angry at him.”

He further added, “Why do such youngsters of today’s times make such mistakes? There should be a slap for it. First blessings, that he gets all the love in the world, may the almighty give him good health. First that, but after that, like parents have this responsibility to slap the children if they make mistakes,.”

Pant survived a horrific car crash on December 30 last year where his car hit the divider and fortunately the nearby people pulled him out before the car caught fire. After undergoing initial treatment in Max Hospital in Dehradun, he was airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment.

Pant took to social media on January 16 this year to thank his well wishers as well as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“I am humbled and grateful for all the support and good wishes. I am glad to let you know that my surgery was a success. The road to recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the BCCI, Jay Shah & government authorities for their incredible support,” tweeted Pant.

“From the bottom of my heart, I also would like to thank all my fans, teammates, doctors and the physios for your kind words and encouragement. Looking forward to see you all on the field,” he added.
