The young Indian cricketers, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are facing suspension from the BCCI for their sexist and misogynistic comments on the talk show Koffee with Karan. A lot has happened ever since the episode was aired on national TV and the cricketers have faced the wrath from the public. While the inquiry is still pending on the duo, the anchor of the show Karan Johar has opened up for the first time on the matter.

While speaking to ET Now, Karan conceded that he feels responsible with the after-effects of the show and has endured a lot of sleepless nights since then. He also went on to add that he can’t undo the damage and it is beyond his control now.

The famous Bollywood director said, “I have to say that I feel very responsible because it was my show, it was my platform. I invited them as guests and so the ramifications and repercussion of the show are my responsibility. I have had so many so many sleepless nights, wondering about how I can undo this damage, who is gonna listen to me. It’s now gone into a zone which is beyond my control.”

Pandya and Rahul faced a lot of flak for their comments on women when they opened up on their personal life on Karan’s celebrity chat show “Koffee With Karan”, aired on Star World.

Defending those comments, Karan said, “I have no control about the answers that come my way. And post the show, I have a control room which has about 16-17 girls. The show ‘Koffee With Karan’ is run entirely by women and I am the only man there. None of them came up. Some thought, ‘Oh, he’s wild, he’s crazy, he’s cracked, he’s mad, he said funny things…’ No one came and told me it was inappropriate or that ‘Karan, maybe we should edit it’, and as a result, I didn’t think… I regret what has happened to them (Pandya and Rahul).”

Meanwhile, Rahul and Hardik are made to wait even more as far as the inquiry over the matter is concerned. The Supreme Court has set February 5 as the date for the BCCI‘s case hearing. This has put the duo’s participation in the IPL and the World Cup 2019 in serious doubt.

It remains to be seen if they will be banned for a certain period or it will be a backdated suspension given the fact that they have already missed four ODIs since being suspended from the middle of Australia tour ahead of the ODI series.
