Indian cricketer Karun Nair has recently claimed that the consistency team game is key for the Indian cricket team to stay the no.1 Test ranking for a long time. He also believes that they can beat any team on the day.

In December 2016, Nair got the big limelight when he became the second Indian cricketer, after Virender Sehwag, to score a triple hundred in the Test cricket. However, due to the hugely inconsistent forms, Nair has been not included in the playing XI since March 2017.

In the recent historic Test match between India and Afghanistan at Bengaluru, which was the debutant Test match for Afghanistan as the 12th Test member, Nair was in the 15-member squad but again failed to earn another chance.

However, Nair is very confident about his team. He claimed that Indian cricket is focusing on their brand of cricket.

Nair told Sportstar on Saturday, “We were not looking at who were playing and we were focusing on our brand of cricket. It doesn’t matter who we play or where we play. It is about focusing on how we play as a team. We have to keep that as constant.”

Nair also believes that the consistency performances will keep them on the top of the Test ranking for long times.

26-year-old quoted, “We have done that (been consistent) for the last few years, and if we can do it, we will stay as No. 1 Test team. Everyone chips in at the right moment and collectively you start performing. We can beat any team on the day.”

Though Afghanistan suffered a huge defeat by an innings and 262 runs in their first ever Test against India, Nair is confident that the newest Test team will do better.

The right-handed batsman said, “It is a historic moment for them to get Test status and play against India. It is a great thing like the way Afghanistan has made it to Test cricket. They will only get better.”

While the Indian cricketer has been impressed with Afghanistan’s recent performances in the limited-overs cricket, he also believes that they will learn from the first Test match as well.

“We have seen how fast they have improved in T20 and ODI cricket. It’s about getting more games under their belt. They will learn from this match,” Nair concluded.
