Former England seamer Kate Cross has announced that she will retire from professional cricket at the end of the summer, bringing the curtain down on an international career spanning more than a decade. The 34-year-old represented England 102 times between 2013 and 2025 and continued playing domestic cricket after losing her England contract last year. Cross confirmed that she now feels the final chapter of her playing career is approaching.

“The final chapter is in sight.” Kate Cross made her England debut at the age of 22 during a T20I against West Indies and was part of the side that won the 2013-14 Women’s Ashes. That remains England’s most recent Ashes triumph.

Her international career also featured difficult periods. After losing her place across formats, Cross watched England’s memorable 2017 Women’s World Cup triumph at Lord’s from a hospitality box. However, she fought her way back into the team and became a regular in England’s Test and ODI setups.

Cross eventually lost her place under new head coach Charlotte Edwards last summer, with her final international appearance coming in an ODI against India in July 2025.

At the domestic level, Cross remains a key figure for Lancashire, the county where she began playing at just 14 and became the first woman to join its academy. Lancashire chair Dame Sarah Storey described her as a “true Lancashire legend” and praised her contribution to both county and country.

Cross recently featured in The Hundred final for Sunrisers Leeds and will continue playing for Lancashire for the remainder of the domestic season. She is scheduled to face The Blaze in Nottingham on Sunday as she approaches the end of her career.

Cross leaves the international game with an impressive record. She claimed 25 wickets in Test cricket, 101 in ODIs and 14 in T20Is, while earning 102 appearances for England across formats. Her decision marks the end of a memorable journey that included Ashes success, a World Cup setback, an international comeback and more than a decade representing England at the highest level.
