India’s ever-reliable overseas batsman Ajinkya Rahane was missing from the playing XI of Cape Town Test, which raised quite a few eyebrows including one of Kepler Wessels, who feels he should be brought back for the next matches.
Indian batsmen did hara-kiri on a greenish Newlands wicket and made a mockery of a chase-able target. Wickets came in a bundle for the South African team, which reflects the lack of calmness in the visiting side’s batting order.
Wessels voiced for Rahane’s selection and said “I was surprised when Rahane was dropped for this Test. I know he has not scored a lot of runs lately. But he has the game, has played well in South Africa before. I am sure they will bring him back for the next two Tests.”
Talking to Sportstar, he added, “If you are not brave and gutsy while facing the South African attack on these type of surfaces, you are not going to score runs.”
India lost the Test match by 72 runs after dismissing the hosts for 130, which left them to get 208 runs to claim an unforgettable victory. However, things were not that rosy for Indian batsmen as well, who, yet again, lost their seven wickets inside 200 runs.
The next Test will commence from January 13 in Centurion.
