Shai Hope has emerged as one of the standout performers in the ongoing white-ball series against India, with his outstanding batting helping the West Indies secure a memorable victory. Following the visitors’ record-breaking run chase in the second T20I, former England captain Kevin Pietersen suggested that several franchises could show interest in the West Indies skipper at the IPL 2027 mini-auction.

The five-match T20I series is level at 1-1 after the first two matches, with Hope playing a pivotal role in the West Indies’ successful chase. His unbeaten century not only powered his team to victory but also strengthened his case for another opportunity in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

With the IPL 2027 mini-auction approaching, Pietersen took to social media platform X to highlight the potential demand for the in-form batter. Although the auction’s date, venue and schedule have yet to be officially announced, Hope’s recent performances could attract attention from franchises looking to strengthen their batting line-ups.

“If Shai Hope puts his name into the IPL mini-auction, there might be some paddles in the air from a few tables,” Kevin Pietersen wrote on X. The former England captain’s prediction comes at a time when Hope has been consistently delivering substantial scores against India across both ODIs and T20Is.

Hope has produced an impressive sequence of innings during the ongoing tour, demonstrating his ability to adapt to different formats and match situations. His scores include three centuries and a half-century across the five innings listed below.

Shai Hope’s innings in this tour vs India:

  • 102* against India in the second T20I in Ranchi on October 9
  • 52 in the first T20I in Lucknow on October 6
  • 162* in the third ODI in New Chandigarh on October 3
  • 104 in the ODI in Guwahati on September 30
  • 12 in the ODI in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27

These performances have underlined Hope’s value as a top-order batter and strengthened his reputation in limited-overs cricket. Despite his recent success, Hope has limited experience in the IPL. He represented Delhi Capitals during the 2024 season, scoring 183 runs in nine matches. That remains his only IPL campaign to date.

Whether Hope enters the IPL 2027 mini-auction remains to be seen. However, his current form could make him an intriguing option for franchises seeking an experienced international batter. In the second T20I in Ranchi on October 9, India posted a formidable 249, powered by Sanju Samson’s 82 off 41 balls. The West Indies responded with a remarkable chase, with Hope initially taking time to settle before accelerating as the innings progressed.

Sherfane Rutherford contributed a blistering 84 off 37 balls, while Romario Shepherd remained unbeaten on 34 off just 13 deliveries. Their aggressive approach complemented Hope’s composed yet destructive innings. Hope finished unbeaten on 102, guiding the West Indies to a memorable victory and levelling the T20I series. With his performances attracting attention, the possibility of a return to the IPL could become an interesting storyline ahead of the 2027 auction.
