Actress Khushi Mukherjee has found herself at the centre of a growing controversy following her remarks about India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. What began as a casual interaction with paparazzi at a social event has now escalated into a serious legal matter, with a high-profile defamation case being filed against her.

During the interaction, Mukherjee claimed that the Indian cricketer “used to message her a lot” in the past. The statement quickly went viral across social media platforms, drawing sharp reactions from fans and observers. The situation intensified after Mumbai-based social media influencer Faizan Ansari lodged a formal complaint, accusing the actress of making false and defamatory claims about an international sportsperson.

According to reports, Ansari filed a defamation case worth ₹100 crore on January 13 at the Ghazipur police station. In his complaint, he alleged that Mukherjee’s comments were made purely for publicity and had the potential to damage Suryakumar Yadav’s reputation, both in India and globally. He has demanded strict legal action against the actress, including the registration of an FIR and a substantial jail term.

Speaking to the media, Ansari stated that as a public figure with a massive online following, he felt a responsibility to address what he described as misleading statements. He insisted that allowing such claims to go unchecked could set a dangerous precedent, especially when they involve a prominent athlete representing the country on the international stage.

The controversy traces back to Mukherjee’s response when asked about dating cricketers. She stated that she had no interest in dating any cricketer and added that several players had shown interest in her over the years. Her specific reference to Suryakumar Yadav, however, became the focal point of the backlash, prompting widespread debate online.

As criticism mounted, Mukherjee issued a clarification in an interview, asserting that her comments had been misunderstood and blown out of proportion. She categorically denied having any romantic involvement with Suryakumar Yadav and maintained that their interactions, if any, were strictly friendly and limited to the past. The actress also claimed that her social media account had been hacked, further contributing to the confusion surrounding her statements.

Mukherjee explained that she has not been in contact with the Indian captain for a long time and has not spoken to him even after the controversy erupted. Attempting to strike a conciliatory tone, she wished Team India and Suryakumar Yadav success in upcoming tournaments, including the World Cup.

With legal proceedings now underway and public scrutiny intensifying, the episode serves as a reminder of how off-the-cuff remarks can spiral into serious consequences in the age of instant virality, especially when they involve high-profile personalities from the world of cricket.
