MI batter Tim David and assistant coach Kieron Pollard faced consequences for breaching conduct regulations in the Indian Premier League, as confirmed by an IPL press release on April 20. Both individuals were fined 20 percent of their match fees following an incident during MI’s away game against PBKS at Mullanpur.

While specifics regarding the breach were not disclosed, speculation suggests that Tim David’s involvement in advising batters on DRS decisions from the dugout may have led to the penalty. This action, if confirmed, would contravene league regulations. The incident gained attention on social media when David appeared to suggest a review for a wide ball, prompting PBKS captain Sam Curran to express objection to the umpire.

Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard engaged in a dispute with the umpires and entered the field, attempting to initiate a time-out. Despite the MI dugout’s instructions to batters Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma, Pollard’s efforts were thwarted. The umpires intervened, instructing Pollard and other MI players and staff to vacate the playing area.

The IPL’s statement on their website addressed the matter, stating, “Mumbai Indians batter Tim David and Batting Coach Kieron Pollard have been fined for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during their team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18.”

The release specified that both David and Pollard were guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. They each incurred a 20 percent fine for their respective match fees, acknowledging the sanctions imposed by the Match Referee. The decision, it emphasized, was final and binding for Level 1 breaches.

Despite the disciplinary issues, MI emerged victorious in the game against PBKS, securing a 9-run win. Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional 3/21 spell earned him the player of the match accolade.
