Former India U-19 captain, Ishan Kishan, scored his maiden Indian Premier League half-century earlier in the day against Sun Risers Hyderabad. In what was Gujarat Lions’ last encounter of the tournament, Kishan ended on a successful personal front. The 18-year old left-hand batsman has had starts in the tournament but a half-century to finish it would be satisfying for him.
Kishan made his IPL debut last year. He played five matches but was sent in to bat in the late middle order every time. This season presented Kishan better opportunities. With Dwayne Smith and Aaron Finch in the playing eleven, Kishan was preferred to open with Brendon McCullum, which worked for him.
In 11 matches this year, Kishan has scored 277 runs at an average of 27.70 and a strike rate of 134.46. He was sent in to open with Dwayne Smith today. The duo stitched a 111-run partnership in 65 balls for the first wicket. A batting collapse made sure that Lions were bundled out for 154 in 19.2 overs.
Excelling on a personal front, Kishan ended up scoring 61 off 40 balls. His innings was comprised of five fours and four sixes. He followed Smith to the pavilion in the 12th over when he top-edged a Mohammed Siraj delivery into the hands of Naman Ojha. Watch the full video:
