Kolkata Knight Riders have been dealt another blow ahead of IPL 2026, with pacer Akash Deep officially ruled out of the entire season. A senior team official confirmed the development, bringing further concerns to a squad already battling multiple injury setbacks. The 29-year-old Bengal fast bowler, who was picked up at his base price of ₹1 crore during the mini-auction, has not joined the KKR camp, which began on March 18 in Kolkata.

He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. While the exact nature of his injury has not been disclosed, there has reportedly been ongoing communication between the medical staff and the franchise regarding his recovery.

Akash Deep’s absence only adds to KKR’s growing list of injury concerns. Promising pacer Harshit Rana is also expected to miss a significant part of the season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. Meanwhile, lingering fitness concerns remain about Matheesha Pathirana, who recently suffered a calf injury during the T20 World Cup.

With key bowlers unavailable, KKR will need to rethink their pace strategy. The responsibility is likely to fall on players such as Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi, while all-rounders Cameron Green and Ramandeep Singh could also play crucial roles in balancing the attack.
