KKR’s star player Ramandeep Singh has said that they do miss Gautam Gambhir but he also feels that current mentor Dwayne Barvo brings the same champion mentality to the team as well. Gambhir guided KKR to their third title last year as he joined the team as their mentor at the start of the 2024 campaign as well. Under Gambhir, KKR just lost 3 games and won the title as well.

Notably, Bravo was brought in after Gautam Gambhir took over as the new India coach and has seen KKR enjoy a mixed campaign so far. Speaking at the press conference before the PBKS game, Ramandeep also opened up about the difference of having Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane as captains of KKR.

“We do miss an individual like Gautam Gambir and the things he brought in the team. But now we have a coach like DJ Bravo, who brings the same champion mindset in the team. And if we talk about Shreya and Ajinkya, both have been wonderful captains. While Ajinkya brings a lot of calmness in the dug out and every youngster idolizes him, he has led with his form too this season. And Shreyas, we all know how confident he is and gets the plan executed from the team. Both are different but bring a lot on the table for each team,” said Ramandeep Singh.

Ramandeep Singh also said that he is backing himself to be the finisher for KKR this season as well. He also said that he backs himself and tries to be fearless after the 15th over, regardless of the match situation.

“KKR have given me the role to come in at 5,6 or 7 and do what the situation demands and to make the team win. We learn from every situation and it helps us to analyse our game too. My target is to make myself as a match winner for the team and I try to be fearless in my approach right from the first ball of my innings whether the ball is in my area or not. After the 15th over, whatever the situation is, I back myself. And the same goes for every one of us. If I talk about myself, I never thought I would make my Indian debut after last year’s IPL but then my task is to work towards being my best and not to think about results. Rest is in God’s hands,” concluded Ramandeep Singh.
KKR will take on PBKS in Mullanpur on April 15.
