KKR Players Gets Trained By Former Olympian In Quarantine

The players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are currently going through a-6-day quarantine in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of the 13th edition of the tournament. However, the KKR have kept themselves active despite spending going through the isolation period, with special workout routines over group video calls under the guidance of former Olympic sprinter Chris Donaldson.

Donaldson, who represents New Zealand, joined the franchise as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for IPL 2020. The former Olympian has been appointed to keep the players in shape through different exercises, as evident from the video posted by the official Knight Riders Twitter handle.

Donaldson represented New Zealand during the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics and he also competed in the 1998 and 2006 editions of the Commonwealth Games as well. He worked as a trainer for the New Zealand cricket team, before signing up with KKR. The Knight Riders have won the IPL twice so far, emerging victorious in the 2012 and 2014 editions of the tournament.

The 13th edition of the IPL will be played for 53 days, between September 19 and November 10, across three venues in UAE — Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai. The final of this edition will be played on Tuesday and it will be happening for the first time in the history of the tournament. IPL 2020 had to be shiftered out of India due to the the increasing cases of coronavirus in India.

Informing about the same in a press release, BCCI had stated, “IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 and the final will be played on November 10, 2020. The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST.”
