KL Rahul is very thrilled to start his new innings in the Indian Premier League as he was bought by Delhi Capitals in the just concluded mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Rahul has played for three seasons with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which released him before the beginning of IPL 2025.
In a sweet Instagram post, Rahul said thanks to his LSG coaches, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support during his stint with the franchise. “Grateful to the coaches, teammates, and the fans who made this journey with LSG unforgettable. Thank you for the trust, memories, energy, and unwavering support. Here‘s to new beginnings,” he wrote.

KL Rahul was one of the first players drafted by LSG before their IPL 2022 debut and was also the captain for three seasons. Under his captaincy, LSG twice made it to the playoffs.

After a disastrous IPL 2024, where Sunrisers Hyderabad handed LSG a crushing 10-wicket defeat, Rahul’s relations with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka seemed to deteriorate. According to sources, Goenka needed more aggressive players who could be winners rather than players achieving individual milestones.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rahul scored 1,410 runs in 38 matches for LSG with two hundreds and 10 fifties, but his batting style was one of the reasons he was released. In contrast, LSG went all out, splurging a record ₹27 crore to get Rishabh Pant, who became the costliest player in IPL auction history.

Delhi Capitals secured Rahul’s services with a bid of Rs 14 crore, but the team’s co-owner, Parth Jindal, hasn’t confirmed whether Rahul will captain the side. Jindal said, “It’s a bit premature to talk about the captaincy. Axar Patel has been with the franchise for a very long time and he was the vice-captain for the last cycle, so we don’t know whether it’s going to be Axar or somebody else.
