Recent rumours suggesting that KL Rahul has retired from professional cricket are false. An image circulating on social media, purportedly from Rahul’s Instagram story announcing his retirement, is actually a doctored version of a different post. Rahul, who was an important player for India in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, is set to feature in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, starting September 5.
The viral image misrepresents a genuine Instagram story Rahul posted on August 22, which originally announced that he had an important update to share.

The edited version falsely claimed Rahul was retiring, quoting a heartfelt farewell message: “After much reflection and consideration, I have decided to announce my retirement from professional cricket. This decision has not been easy, as the sport has been a significant part of my life for many years. I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement from my family, friends, teammates, and fans throughout my career. The experiences and memories I have gained on and off the field are truly invaluable. I am honoured to have represented my country and played alongside so many talented individuals.”

The post continued: “While I am excited about the new chapter that lies ahead, I will always cherish the time spent in the game. Thank you all for being a part of this incredible journey.”
KL Rahul had a notable performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, scoring 452 runs in 11 matches and delivering a key innings against Australia in India’s opening game. Although he struggled in the 2024 IPL and was left out of India’s T20 World Cup squad, Rahul’s career has been far from over.

Earlier this year, Rahul started strongly in the five-match home Test series against England but was sidelined due to a quadriceps injury after making scores of 86 and 22 in the series opener in Hyderabad. Dhruv Jurel’s impressive performances and the return of Rishabh Pant have created competition for Rahul, but he has not announced any retirement.
