KL Rahul has put to rest any concerns about Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami dealing with injuries, confirming that both players are fit and available for India’s crucial match against New Zealand on March 2 at the Dubai International Stadium. Reports had suggested that the duo might be forced to sit out due to fitness concerns, but Rahul clarified that the team has no such worries and all players are ready for selection in the final league game of the tournament.

However, he hinted that India might consider making a few strategic changes, keeping the semi-finals in mind. With the knockout match scheduled for March 4, some senior players could be given rest to stay fresh for the big clash. Despite this possibility, Rahul emphasized that the final decision lies with the leadership group.

“Fitness-wise, there are no concerns about anyone missing a game as far as I know. There are temptations to try different players before the semis, but I am not sure that will be the case. There is little time before the semifinals, so you would want players to get maximum game time. This is my perspective, but things could change. I am not part of the leadership group,” KL Rahul stated in a press conference.

Rohit Sharma, who appeared to struggle with his hamstring in the last game against Pakistan, briefly handed over captaincy duties to Shubman Gill. Though Gill was also reported to be unwell, he participated in an intense two-hour practice session before the match against New Zealand.

There is speculation that either Rohit or Gill might take a break before the semi-finals. Some reports also suggest that Virat Kohli could be rested, allowing Rishabh Pant an opportunity, while Shami’s spot might go to Arshdeep Singh. However, India could also opt to field an unchanged XI to maintain their winning momentum.
