The Indian team may face a major setback before the England tour. Test team opener and vice-captain KL Rahul could be ruled out of the one-off Test at Edgbaston. Team India went on a tour of England for a five-Test series in 2021, but the final Test didn’t take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Team India is leading 2-1 in the series. Now the fifth match will be played between July 1 to 5.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul was made the captain for the series against South Africa earlier this year, but he was ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa due to injury. Rishabh Pant was given the responsibility of captaincy in his place. He had to be ruled out due to a groin injury on his right leg before the first T20I against South Africa in Delhi.

According to media reports, KL Rahul can now be out of the Test match as well. In Rahul’s absence, the Indian selectors will now have to announce the name of a new vice-captain. In the absence of Rahul, Rishabh Pant can be made the deputy skipper for the Test match. It is not yet clear how long Rahul will be out.
KL Rahul is believed to have reported at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru a few days back. It turns out that the injury has not fully healed. In these circumstances, Rahul may have to miss the Test match.
Some members of the Indian team will leave for England on Friday (June 16). The second team, including coaches Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer, will take off on June 20. Apart from Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav is also injured. Kuldeep is sweating to get fit in the NCA these days.
