Indian opener KL Rahul endured a painful moment on Day 4 of the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi when a sharp delivery from Jayden Seales struck him on the box. The incident occurred during India’s small chase of 121 runs, as Rahul misjudged the bounce on a length ball that rose unexpectedly. The ball crashed into his protective gear, leaving him in visible agony on the pitch. The physio rushed in to attend to Rahul, who winced in pain before resuming play, showcasing his trademark grit and composure.

Earlier, India had managed to bowl out the West Indies for 390 in their second innings after enforcing the follow-on. The visitors displayed resilience with two centuries and a half-century—marking their best batting performance of the series. However, India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, eventually sealed the innings to set up a straightforward chase.

Opening the innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal began aggressively with a couple of boundaries but fell early to Jomel Warrican, leaving Rahul to anchor the chase. Just as he seemed to settle in, Seales’ second over produced the painful blow. Before the incident, Rahul had played a crisp flick through square leg, hinting at good form, but the next ball’s extra bounce stunned him completely.

Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan, who impressed with a fluent 87 in the first innings and a valuable 197-run stand with Jaiswal, suffered a freak injury at short leg. While fielding, he was struck by a hard sweep from John Campbell off Ravindra Jadeja but astonishingly completed the catch. Sudharsan had to leave the field due to the impact, missing the rest of the day’s play.

He, however, returned to bat in India’s second innings after Jaiswal’s dismissal, showing remarkable determination. Batting on 30 at stumps*, Sudharsan looked composed and unaffected by the injury. India finished Day 4 at 63/1, needing just 58 more runs to secure victory.
With another Test win in sight, India are on track to climb above Sri Lanka in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. Their fourth win of the edition would strengthen their position and underline their dominance at home.
