Earlier in the day, CSK witnessed an early collapse after being asked to bat first by Punjab skipper KL Rahul. Notably, CSK has already qualified for the playoffs and a win on Thursday will ensure a top-two finish. Despite winning teh game by a comfortable margin, PBKS failed to qualify for the playoffs as they For Punjab, a defeat would end their IPL 2021 campaign.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, CSK skipper, MS Dhoni said: “You have to cope (when it comes to mental or skill aspect) up with that. We had played very good cricket to reach the playoff stages. We had a few bad games 2 out of 3 and one we felt like we could have a comeback and that’s part and parcel d in leagues like these, you have to be at your best.”
