KL Rahul Is Appointed As Vice-captain For The Test Series In South Africa

The Indian opener, KL Rahul will be performing the role of deputy skipper to Virat Kohli during the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa in the rainbow nation. Rohit Sharma had earlier been appointed as the vice-captain of the series in place of Ajinkya Rahan, but a hamstring injury ruled him out of the series and hence Rahul will be seen performing the duties.

According to the reports of ANI, one of their sources who is aware of the developments confirmed that Rahul would indeed be the vice-captain for Tests against South Africa. The source said, “Yes, with Rohit missing, KL Rahul would be the vice-captain.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday had confirmed that Rohit Sharma will not be able to take part in the three-match Test series against South Africa due to a hamstring issue.

In their official press release regarding the same, BCCI said, “Team India Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the Test squad.”

The Indian cricket team is geared up for their South Africa tour, which has already gotten underway. The players reached the rainbow nation on Thursday, December 16. Meanwhile, the Test series is scheduled to be commencing on December 26 with the first Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
